In spite of media reports of gloomy economic times, family fun is still well within the budget on Saturday, June 13 at the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History in Norman. From 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the museum will offer free admission to the public, thanks to a corporate sponsorship from Chesapeake Energy.

“Chesapeake is very pleased to offer this day of free admission to our community,” said Teresa Rose, Director Community Relations. “The museum offers so many exciting exhibits, we want to help ensure that all Oklahomans have the opportunity to explore and enjoy this state treasure.”

Visitors to the museum on Chesapeake Energy Free Day will have an opportunity to view a new special exhibition featuring one of Oklahoma’s cultural treasures. “One Hundred Summers: A Kiowa Calendar Record” features more than 200 drawings by Kiowa artist and calendar-keeper Silver Horn. The drawings, made on lined ledger paper, represent key events in the history of the Kiowa tribe between 1828 and 1929. The exhibit is sponsored by the Kirkpatrick Foundation and the Merkel Family Foundation.

The Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History is located on the University of Oklahoma Norman campus at Timberdell Road and Chautauqua Avenue, and is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday. Additional information is available on the Web at www.snomnh.ou.edu or by calling (405) 325-4712.
