Hey filmies! What a great week for DVD buyers! After weeks of success at the box office, Australia is finally available for your in-home viewing pleasure! If you didn’t see it in theaters, now is your chance to enjoy Baz Luhrmann’s first feature film since 2001 when his musical Moulin Rouge hit the screens, becoming an instant favorite for fans worldwide. Obviously, there are virtually no similarities in the two, except that Baz displays his genius through breathtaking cinematography and has a knack for leaving his viewers amazed at the depth of his work.
Australia tells the tale of a wealthy English woman (Nicole Kidman) who goes to Australia to confront her husband about her fears that he may be unfaithful. When she reaches the country, however, she finds her husband murdered and her large ranch in danger of being taken over by plotting cattle barons. She befriends and teams up with a stock man (Hugh Jackman) and, determined to save her inheritance, she sets out on a 2000 mile cattle drive across some of the roughest terrain on earth. During their time together, they overcome hardships and watch firsthand the destruction of the bombing of Darwin, Australia by the Japanese forces.
This epic story of love, hardship and perserverence is a captivating film (albeit long) that can easily be placed on the list of best movies of 2008, and would be worth purchasing.

It’s a bit long, but it is an extraordinary film. Nicole Kidman and Hugh Jackman were perfect! Thanks for the comments, ladies!
